The Paliku Academy of Performing Arts set to be the FIRST float in this year's Kane'ohe Christmas Parade! We have received the unprecedented position following the dignitaries and grand marshal. The theme of this year's parade is "A Golden Christmas" which is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Statehood, but more importantly, the color Gold! PAPA's creative team of artists have developed "The Golden Express" float which is covered head to toe with gold! Sequins, fabric, garland, tinsel, ribbons, bows. We have decked out a 17' flatbed to mimic a golden toy train...complete with operating smoke-stack and toys which have "come to life" to share their magic with everyone! Costumes have been created to transform our cast into various toy-favorites...from teddy bears, potato heads and even a slinky dog, we are sure to be a hit at the parade! 40 singers and dancers follow the float with many hit Christmas songs. They have each donated toys (which are also on the float) to be delivered on Sunday, December 20th at 12 noon at Windward Mall as a culmination of their musical production "The Magic of Christmas." All attendees are encouraged to donate toys or monetarily to support the efforts of Toys for Tots! A representative from the organization will be on-hand to receive the donations. The fun begins on Saturday, December 5th at 9am and starts at the new Central Pacific Bank in Kane'ohe Bay Shopping Center. It runs for 1.3 miles on Kamehameha Hwy. and ends at Castle High School. Please come out and show your support and cheer on the kids. Kane'ohe Christmas Parade Saturday, December 5th Kamehameha Hwy ~ Kane'ohe Town 9a - 11a

We have been very busy working on presenting a session of classes for the Fall. We have reached capacity and having SO MUCH FUN! We've been working on songs for the Kane'ohe Christmas Parade and also a show for upcoming performances at Windward Mall and Ala Moana Center. But I have to say that the best part of classes is being back together again! We've been reminiscing and playing old songs and dancing til we are exhausted from laughter. We always have a great time when we're together and this time is no exception! And we have been working hard on parade songs and a 45 minute musical production. If you are interested in having "The Magic of Christmas" performed at a party or special event, please e-mail us at:

Over the course of 3 weeks Mr. J.P., Miss Amy, Harm, Josh, and Aaron crossed the driveway and learned about producing, filming, and editing from our neighbors at Windward Olelo. They created two short videos as their culminating projects, which will be airing on Olelo in the next week. Harm and Josh filmed rehearsals, interviewed students and staff, and created a glimpse at a day in the life of PAPA. Mr. J.P., Miss Amy, and Aaron's video shares highlights of PAPA's performance at a school principals' convention. We'll miss the premier airing on Channel 56 on Saturday, July 18 between 9 and 10 p.m. because we'll be busy wrapping up our second performance. Fortunately, there are a couple more scheduled opportunities to catch the videos on Olelo. Tune in to Channel 52 on Monday, July 20 between 6 and 7 p.m. or Channel 53 on Wednesday, July 22 between 5 and 6 p.m. After that the videos will be used as filler, so you may catch them randomly by surprise on several of the Olelo channels! |
