Another Opening, Another Show!
Monday, 29 June 2009 00:04
Ever wonder how a theater picks a show they're going to do?  Well wonder no longer, as the students of the PAPA Summer Theatre Camp for Kids 2009 present "The Show Must Go On!"  A musical revue about a production team who sets out to find the right show for their cast.  Along the way, they come with some great choices and even their cast has some ideas as to what show they should do.  What musical do they end up deciding on?  Come to the show and find out.

There are some great vocals, dancing and production numbers from many great musicals and motion pictures, including songs from: Sister Act II, Grease, Footloose, Hairspray and much, much more!  Following the reputation that PAPA has built over the last two years, this show promises to make you laugh, cry and want to jump out of your seat and dance!

Week two is almost over and the students have been working so hard!  The instructors and staff are amazed at how much progress we are making.  Thank you to the parents for your support and also to the students for being great.  Lots more to cover so away we go…

LINING UP FOR KAUKAU

A special mahalo to Allyson Tanouye for making a mountain of refreshments for our Parent Meeting and also for the baked goods last Thursday.  The students (and staffJ) really enjoyed and appreciated the surprise snacks.  They lasted for days.  Mahalo for your generosity!

T-SHIRT ORDER FORMS

Forms and monies are due no later than tomorrow, Friday, June 19th.  Late orders will NOT be accepted.  Mahalo to those who have already turned-in their orders and we hope to get the shirts in a couple of weeks.

DONATIONS

Mahalo for the generous donations.  We received so many generous monetary donations.  Mahalo to the many who have donated and especially to: the Mueller ‘Ohana with Industrial Electronics, Inc. and the Coulson ‘Ohana with Coulson Construction for their monetary donation, in-kind donation and in-service donations.  We are truly appreciative.  Also, to the Nekomoto's and Oshiro's for their generous monetary donation.  It’s not too late to assist the program.  Let us know if you are interested in helping out.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP

Thank you for being prompt and trying the new path when picking your child up.  As a caution, please watch your speed when dropping off your child as there are others on campus and when you pick up, as there are usually many students waiting for their rides.  Mahalo for your kokua!

…FIND OUT WHAT IT MEANS TO ME…

This week, the students discussed with Mr. J.P. the meaning of the word: respect.  We are so fortunate for the space we have, the staff and volunteers running the program and the parents who assist us.  We reviewed the ideas of cleaning up after your self, helping out someone who is in need and simply saying “thank you” for all we have.  We need to be aware of this all-important word as we continue on through the summer and in life so we are never caught taking anything for granted.

HE’S B-A-A-A-A-CK!

The world-famous Mr. Ron Bright delighted all who were present for his third annual guest speaker appearance.  His words inspired the students and staff alike.  He really knows how to convey his passion for the art of theatre and motivate others to buy into his energy and enthusiasm.  And as always, the students had questions ready and he had answers for each one.  He is a "happy person who sees the value in a smile."  Thank you Mr. B for sharing your contagious smile and energy with all of us!

IN PARTNERSHIP

The Palikū Academy of Performing Arts began because of four friends and a dream.  They always knew that they couldn’t do it alone.  And this year, we are extremely fortunate to have many outstanding organizations and the people in those programs working hard to continue the dream from three years ago…

The Castle Performing Arts Center – Board of Directors

Joan Gerber, Michele Harris, Anna Norris and Joyce Johnson

S.W. King Intermediate School

Sheena Alaiasa, Bob Lockyer and Lawrence Trela

Kāne‘ohe Elementary School

Mitchell Otani and Debbie Nekomoto

‘Olelo Community Television

Donna Ylen and Neal Rivera

These groups, but more importantly the people who lead them, have been supportive and willing to do so much for our students.  We hope to continue these great partnerships and even add to this list.  So if you know of any program interested in being a partner with us, please let us know!

Third time’s the charm!  Welcome back for yet another exciting year of theatre.  It seems we have much more going on this year and so thank you to: Tasha, Zack, Logan, Andrew and Jasmine for helping us to stay organized and to the Castle Performing Arts Center Board of Directors and S.W. King Intermediate School for their strong support of this year’s endeavors.  There’s a lot to cover so…let’s go on with the show!

SIMON SAYS…GREAT MEETING!

Thanks to all of you for coming out to our parent meeting this past Sunday.  It was nice to see the returnees again and meet our new members.  And seeing them play was nothing short of hilarious.  Congratulations to our parent winners – Evette Tanoyue-Allerdings, Annie Yoshida and Keri Jackson and the student winner of Hawaiian Simon Says, Rebekah Johnson.

LAB FEES

Thank you to those who have already turned-in your payment.  If you haven’t done so, the $100 is due tomorrow!!  If you are unable to make your payment, please see Mr. J.P. and set-up a payment plan.  Mahalo for your assistance with this matter.

DONATIONS

Mahalo for the generous donations.  We received enough to get the project started, but we are still seeking out donations to finish the project.  If you are able, please make your checks out to: CPAC because a special account has been set-up for the building of our dance studio.  Mahalo in advance for your support!

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP

Beginning FRIDAY, we will try-out a new method of pick-up.  We are asking that cars enter the first entrance when you approach the campus (prior to the basketball courts) and exit through the main entrance of the school (with the traffic light).  We will see if this will make the procedure easier.  Thanks for staying flexible!!  And remember, pick up is at 5:00pm!  Mahalo for your kokua!

AUDITIONS
Everyone should feel really good about their auditions this week!  The instructors were very proud of the progress of the returning students and the breath of fresh air that the new students brought to the program.Be on the look out for the cast announcement coming soon!  It's gonna be a great show!!
